Candy Cigarettes
Jake: When I wrote the first draft of this song, I’d been listening to a lot of music from my younger days. For me it was the 90s—Bush, U2, Silverchair, Beck, Third Eye Blind—and that shows up in the lyrics. But through the guitar licks, bass lines, and drums, you can hear the guys bringing in the younger versions of themselves too.
I think there are some goals and aspirations we let go of as we get older, but there are some others we just can’t… and this song is about that. Polaroid dreams.
Dave:
Dripping with nostalgia for sure. Jake really reaches back to his younger days and experiences. This is the first release from us featuring a larger role for Jake on guitar which I really love! We also split the duties in the music writing. I had the idea for what would become the verse and the C section, Jake added the pre-chorus and chorus sections...et voila! The verse progression is super simple, greasy type of thing that I heard as a Stones type of thing. I kept that flavor in my approach to the part. I'm on the left side of the mix, Jake on the right. So some of those little riffs are me trying to keep that 70's feel in it, so that makes sense with the nostalgia thing. Jake can speak to the pre and chorus sections but it works really well, maybe it shouldn't but it does. Jake plays the lead at the end and really nailed it I think. He's a really great player for sure, very melodic with great phrasing and feel! More of that please!!! I did the first lead line in the C section, Jake added the harmony line. I also really love the bass line from Jason as it moves around with almost a circus organ type of thing.....well to me anyway. Again it really fits with the theme! The end of the radio mix gives a little tease of the album cut after the stripped down/acoustic section by Jake. Again it features some really good lead work from Jake! You'll just have to wait to hear that! Enjoy!!
Jason:
Great song. Had a lot of fun writing and recording this one as it took me back to a period in my life when I was playing in a cover band and just having a lot of fun...
Tim: Working with these guys on this song was an absolute blast! Jake always brings incredible ideas to the table, while Dave and Jake nailed all the guitar parts flawlessly. Jason laid down some solid bass lines that really elevate the track, and I (Tim) focused on keeping everything grounded with my straightforward drum work, which I believe complements the guitars and bass beautifully. Jake really hit it out of the park with his lyrics and vocals, and Jason backed him up with some beautiful harmonies. Their teamwork added a nice depth to the song, showing off what they both can do. Together, we all have created a really memorable song! This song is an incredible trip down memory lane, bringing back so many amazing moments from our younger days! It's packed with nostalgia and truly resonates with the experiences we've shared. I had an absolute blast being part of the creative process! Until next time, let’s keep rocking and rolling—can't wait for what's next! Cheers, Timmy P." 🤘😎🤘
