Satisfied

Jake: I went back and listened to one of the first drafts of this song (with vocals), and it had the same themes as verse 1 and the very end of the song. Often times, whatever I’m feeling or thinking about, either from life or just the way the music feels to me, will come out in the lyrics. I sent the guys the first version in the beginning of October 2023. We went back and forth on structure and they recorded the song in the studio and sent it my way… and it was a slower tempo. I didn’t think the vocals I had still fit. It was already nearing the top of my range and singing it slower wasn’t working for me. So I started reworking the vocal lines, and by that time—it took us a little while to learn how to effectively collaborate online—I wasn’t feeling the same frustration in life that I was when I wrote the first part. It morphed into more of me talking to my past self or to anyone going through a rough time… and a reminder:

No you're not the only one

Who feels the way you feel now

You can build yourself back up

Without tearing yourself down

Dave: With my parts I was shooting for a sense of openness and distance. When Jason suggested that we emphasize the acoustic guitar during the choruses that really hit the mark for me. Another pretty simple tune but the movement is built more on the production which is still simple but effective. Another great melody and lyric by Jake! The bass part feels like a retro thing but is totally up to date as well. The chimey  guitars during the chorus and pre-chorus are one of my favorite parts. Subtle but contribute the sense of depth and distance. The whole thing feels a little sad, but it reflects the lyric.  Also a shout out to Jake for the strings in the breakdown section!

Jason: So for this tune I tried to keep in mind the vibe of loneliness and uncertainty that is expressed in the lyrics. So for me, that means not to much movement or happy sounding bass lines. That pre chorus where the lyric is
"So when you feel you've had enough"
you will notice I play a bit faster/happier sounding bass line as the lyric gets a bit more positive there. Overall I always try to stick within what I feel the vibe of the song is. Sometimes I nail other times not so much ;)

Tim:  When Dave, Jason and I first got together to write, this was the first song I believe that we came up with and I think the way it is now has not changed a whole lot musically save for some creative ideas added here and there and with Jakes vocals and lyrics the song really comes alive. My drum parts are pretty straight forward and not too flashy, basically keeping everything steady and in line. I think we did use a click track on this but sometimes we are more adept at just playing and letting the music flow. This one is nostalgic for me in the sense it was the first song we wrote together. Cheers, Timmy P!
